The Snack-Bar Café Bar Couceiro e Irmão LDA started its activity on August 5, 1989 and are originally from Mozambique – it is a family business.
With the proclamation of Mozambique’s independence on June 25, 1975, they came to Portugal that same year. Shortly afterwards, they moved to Brazil, to Rio de Janeiro, where they lived and were supported by local friends.
On June 17, 1989 they returned to Portugal and on August 5 of the same year they started the Snack-Bar Café Bar Couceiro e Irmão, the business started with five members of the family. Interestingly, they were the first ethnic Orientals to arrive in this part of Lisbon.
Throughout his life, Carlos Lee taught geography at the Veiga Beirão Commercial School, which was next to the GNR barracks in Largo do Carmo. He taught martial arts at the Vitória Clube de Lisboa for around six years.
In 1996 it was necessary to support the family business and since then it has been located in Rua Professor Mira Fernandes in Lisbon, where the family welcomes its customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
The snack bar offers traditional snacks and also the social games of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.
Over more than thirty-five years, the dedication of this family, the experiences lived in the café and the interesting stories to tell are impressive.
