BEATO IN MOTION: THE NEW ERA OF URBAN MOBILITY IN LISBON – 2025

What Will Happen:
Investment and Expansion of the Cycle Network: Lisbon City Council has announced an investment of €13 million to increase the cycle network by 90 kilometers by the end of 2025, expanding it from 173 to 263 kilometers.
Construction of New Cycle Paths: A total of 56 new connecting cycle paths are planned to enhance and integrate the existing infrastructure.
Cycle Path Maintenance: For the first time, a budget allocation of €1.7 million has been dedicated to the maintenance of cycle paths, a task that will now be managed by EMEL.
Expansion of Gira Stations: The number of Gira bicycle stations will grow from 150 to 190 by 2025, with a fleet totaling 1,900 bicycles—of which 1,800 will be electric—serving all 24 parishes. In Bairro Madre de Deus, within the Beato parish, a new station is planned adjacent to the new Creche Manuela Ramalho Eanes.
Connecting Schools: €2 million will be invested to connect schools to the cycle network, in addition to €400,000 provided by the BICI Bloomberg Program to link cycle paths to 20 schools, benefitting 20,000 students.
Audit and Safety: An audit conducted by Copenhagenize has identified safety issues on roads such as Avenida Almirante Reis, Avenida 24 de Julho, and Rua Prof. Pinto Peixoto, along with significant deficiencies at intersections and discontinuities within the network.
Changes to the Cycle Path on Almirante Reis: Lisbon City Council is planning significant changes to the design of the cycle path on Almirante Reis, aiming to harmonize the cycling and road networks and enhance safety.
